Sports 4 is committed to supporting fundraising events in our local community. Every year, we sponsor numerous local soccer and athletic clubs, select individual athletes, and charities/agencies. Please note: Due to the high volume of requests that are submitted, we only accept sponsorship applications during the month of January. Individuals will be notified of the funding decisions in early February.

Systematix IT Solutions Inc. Silent Auction – The Ottawa Food Bank
The silent auction, held on February 4, 2010, was a wonderful success, raising a total of $5,762 for the Ottawa Food Bank. Currently, the Ottawa Food Bank provides emergency food assistance to 43,000 people per month, approximately 40% children. Each and every working day, over 12 tons of food leaves the Michael Street warehouse, bound for one of the 135+ agencies where it will be distributed to the community. 2011 event details will be posted closer to the date. Faster than a Pastor – Watato child care ministries
A 5km and 10km run/walk in support of Woodvale’s International Humanitarian Missions work helping Watato child care ministries in Uganda. Watoto is a response to the cry of the orphaned and vulnerable children of Africa, whose lives have been ravaged by war and disease. The next event is scheduled for May 1, 2010 at the Arboretum Central Experimental Farm in Ottawa. See the Faster than a Pastor website for event and registration details.
Diefenbooker Classic – Ottawa Public Library and Canada’s Cold War Museum
The Diefenbooker Classic, hosted by the Ottawa Public Library Foundation, will be held on Saturday, May 1, 2010 in Carp, Ontario. The Diefenbooker Classic has proven to be a huge success for the promotion of health in the community, and for fundraising for the West Carleton Branches of the Ottawa Public Library. In their thirteenth year, the Foundation is pleased to welcome the Diefenbunker, Canada’s Cold War Museum, as a joint beneficiary of the fundraising.
Returning events for all ages will include 5 and 10 km running races, 5, 18 and 33 km cycle tours, and a 5km walk (with your pooch if you wish). Youth events will include a 1km running race for 12 years and under, and “Loonie Loop” short races for those 2 to 6 years old. For more information, go to the Diefenbooker Classic website.
Trillium Redemption Run – Harvest House
Sports 4 is honored to be the key sponsor for the 2nd Annual Trillium Redemption 11km Run. The race will be held at Harvest House on Saturday, June 12, 2010. It’s a scenic country route great for all levels of runners. Come out as a family, on your own or with friends and enjoy a pancake breakfast and tour of Harvest House after the races!
Harvest House was incorporated in 1979 and has seen over 2,200 men come through their doors since their inception. The running program is an important part of the curriculum at Harvest House. It was started to help residents on the journey to beat their alcohol and drug addictions, and increase their chances of rehabilitation through physical training and self discipline. Nepean Nomads 20th Anniversary Volksmarch
Sports 4 is happy to welcome the Nepean Nomads to our family of sponsored events. The Nepean Nomads club is member of the Canadian Volkssport Federation (CVF) that promotes non-competitive walking for people of all ages and levels of fitness. Every year the club organizes several walks in the National Capital Region. In celebration of the clubs 20th anniversary, a 5km and 11km trail walk will be held on Saturday, June 12, 2010 at the Ben Franklin Place (Old Nepean City Hall). Registraton is between 9-1pm, and the trail closes at 4pm. Do It For Dad – The Ottawa Regional Cancer Foundation
Sports 4 is pleased to once again support this year’s Alterna Do It for Dad! campaign. The 5km and 10km events for running enthusiasts and the 2km family walk are all scheduled for Sunday, June 20, 2010. Funds raised for this race will benefit the Prostate Cancer Association of Ottawa and the Ottawa Regional Cancer Foundation. Zone 3 Sports – Canada Day Run
Come join us on July 1st for the Canada Day Runs in Jacques Cartier Parc. There is something for everyone: a 5K Run, 3k Family Walk, or the 1K Run for Kids.
What better way to see the Canadian Museum of Civilization, Chateau Laurier, US Embassy, The Canadian War Memorial, The National Arts Center, The Rideau Canal Bytown Locks, The NCC Pathway System, The Ottawa River, The Ottawa River Parkway, The Canadian War Museum and Jacques Cartier Park, all in one morning? The answer is easy: There is no better way!!
Canada Day in Jacques Cartier Parc promises to be filled with outdoor music concerts, entertaining buskers and face painting. Chi Running Workshop
Sports 4 is excited to announce that Danny Dreyer will be talking about the many benefits of Chi Running at our Bank Streen location on Friday August 20th at 7:30pm. The talk will last approximately 1.5 hours.
A one-day Chi Running workshop will be held the following day on August 21, 2010 from 9-4:30 at the Rideauview Community Centre in Ottawa. The workshop will guide you through many exercises and drills designed to leave you with a clear sense of what the Chi Running technique feels like in your body. We will not be doing lots of running (contrary to what you might imagine), so no matter what condition you’re in, have no fear. We will spend the day alternating between demonstrations, fun exercises and technique drills…the nature of the day will be relaxed, full, and inspiring. For more details visit Chi Running website
MADD Dash – Mothers Against Drunk Driving Ottawa
Mothers Against Drunk Driving Ottawa is pleased to present their second annual MADD DASH/Strides for Change public awareness and fundraising event in support of the fight against impaired driving. A 10km and 5km timed run and a 5km walk will take place Sunday, October 17, 2010. MADD Ottawa has a proven track record of keeping our roadways safer and saving lives. Four Canadians are killed and approximately 207 are injured each day due to alcohol and drug-related crashes. The funds raised will help to heighten awareness of MADD Ottawa’s vital educational programs, services and support programs. Go to the MADD Dash website for further event and registration details.
Rattle Me Bones – The Ottawa Hospital
The 2,400 participants in the 2009 Rattle Me Bones raised more than $90,000 for patient care, arthritis and orthopedics research at the Ottawa Hospital. To date, this event has raised $780,000 for improvements at the hospital. This year’s race will be held on October 24, 2010.
